  • Caledon Flies was established in 2003 as a Poverty Relief Programme, under the auspices of the Department of Environmental Affairs and Tourism.

  • 47 ladies from the area have been trained in the art of Fly-Tying artificial fishing flies.

  • After training, each lady becomes a piece-worker and essentially works for herself. In this way a work-ethic is instilled and entrepreneurship is encouraged.

  • A section 21 company has been created which belongs to the community and which assists in maintaining the project.

  • We tie a range of flies, varying from Nymphs for trout fishing, to Deer Hair Bass flies and Saltwater flies. We gladly take orders for corporate functions, wholesale buyers and will design a fly to suit your needs. We have recently launched a range of lures for bass and saltwater, opening up  our market to all fishermen, not just fly-fishermen.

  • The quality of our product is of exceptional standard and can withstand several ‘catches’. (unlike the cheap products produced in the Far East) We pride ourselves on our wide variety of flies and our innovative designs, which are regularly updated to keep up with an ever-changing market.

  • We have been awarded the sought after ‘Proudly South African’ accreditation. This essentially means that we comply with specific standards of quality, levels of local material content and that we follow fair labour practice.

  • In the past we have concentrated on wholesale distribution to the international market, but are happy to say that, due to popular demand, we are opening an on-line shop, open to the general public.  This is marketed under “ E-Flies.com
